Antique Clock Restoration

There are many disciplines involved in antique clock restoration that demand a knowledge of the history and evolution of clocks. This includes an understanding of escapements and the time train, motion work, the strike train, chiming methods, dial restoration, silvering and gilding, wheel cutting, bushing, identifying and reconstructing broken or lost parts, cleaning, lubrication, dismantling methodology and the sequence of re-assembly, early carpentry methods, lacquering, and of course appropriate testing methods.

Competent restoration is a methodical and time consuming process. Where possible, traditional methods, contemporary materials and parts in keeping with the original piece are used.
