A good quality precision eight day carved mahogany longcase regulator signed D. Doig Fecit. c1850

This is a very good quality regulator in a solid mahogany case, polished inside and out, carved cresting to the hood. Long glazed trunk door with lock and arched glass to view pendulum and fitted shelf with silvered pendulum beat scale. Paneled base and carved scrolling to canted corners on trunk sides. Circular brass bezel to the hood door with flat beveled glass, pin locking to left and standing on wooden pad feet.

The circular 12” diameter silvered brass dial is signed D. Doig Fecit across the center. Full minute band on the dial circumference with Arabic numerals at the five minute markers. 4.5” subsidiary seconds dial below the 60 minute marker with Arabic numerals every 10 seconds. 4.5” subsidiary hours dial above the 30 minute marker with Roman chapters. Winding hole to the left of center. Spade counterweighted hour hand, counterweighted straight seconds hand and straight minute hand, all of blued steel.

A very substantial movement with shaped plates and four very heavy pillars and blued retaining bolts. Time only 8 day movement, single lead weight to left inside the trunk. Four brass pillars holding dial to movement. All held to a 1” seatboard by two butterfly bolts into lower movement pillars. Deadbeat escapement with Harrison maintaining power. Mercurial (Graham) compensating seconds beating pendulum suspended from cast iron bracket attached to back board. Gut line over side pulley and to 3” diameter six spoke pulley.
